Just in time…

October 20, 2007

jack_nicholson_001.jpg
According to the UK’s The Telegraph, after 70 years in mental institutions a british woman is now free after being discovered by a long-lost brother. The woman was hospitalized in her youth when she was charged with a petty theft, she then was passed from one institution to the next for all these years. Presumably, she spent those many years insisting she wasn’t crazy. If this isn’t the saddest catch 22 i have ever heard of, then leave it in the comments.

Priest says being gay was just a trick

October 14, 2007

Gay Priest Trick

Vatican official Monsignor Tommaso Stenico was secretly filmed trying to solicit sex with a young man, and is also known to have frequented gay chatrooms. Now gay priests aren’t really news anymore, but the story is in Stenico’s defense.

“It’s all false; it was a trap. I was a victim of my own attempts to contribute to cleaning up the Church with my psychoanalyst work”, said Stenico. What a cunning trap. Pretending to be gay, by being gay. Truly there hasn’t been such a brilliant trap since the last James Bond movie. I wonder how many little boys fell for it.

By this same logic, OJ Simpson was just arrested because he was trying to better understand “the real killer”. And George W. Bush is only being such a dick in the Middle East so he can better understand the minds of the terrorists.

Japanese Robots Want To Touch Your Face

October 10, 2007

Robot Facial

Tokyo’s Waseda University has unveiled a new specialized robot that is specifically designed to give facial massages. Leave it to Japan to totally misunderstand the concept of massages by replacing the women with machines.

In a world where 1 out of 5 Xboxes break down, do you really trust a robot to violently scrub your face? I would be too afraid of the robot tearing my face off and then wearing it as the first step towards secretly integrating itself into human society.

In Fans They Trust

October 10, 2007

Radiohead have released their upcoming album In Rainbows a couple of months early on the internet. In a unique experiment, they have left the price paid up the consumer, urging them to pay what they believe the album to be worth.

Radiohead In Rainbows Up To You

While you would expect most people to contribute very little, or nothing at all, Billboard.com claims that the average price donated so far is $10.00 US. That’s pretty impressive.

It will be curious to see what happens when a totally washed up band like Poison tries the same thing. The record company will probably have to pay everyone who downloaded it $10.00.

Sorry Poison fans, it’s over. Go change your shirt.

iGravel rocks teen with bad gift

October 9, 2007

jobs.jpg

According to Ars Technica, a young girl’s birthday party went horribly awry when her new iPod turned out to be nothing more than a box of gravel from Cupertino. Like any other red-blooded consumer, her parent went to Target to get an exchange, when the original Target was out of stock to they were sent to a near-by store. At the second store, they were forced to buy the new iPod before opening the box. Once it was theirs, the adulation of new-iPod-ownership was yet again dashed on the rocks as it too was gravel filled. According to the source, the buyers then used the store credit to buy other items and went home. All things said, still better then getting a Zune.

NIN and Reznor Label-free

October 8, 2007

trent2.jpg

Even if you aren’t a Nine Inch Nails fan you have to respect Trent Reznor’s (NIN frontman) move to take the band independent. Reznor has been calling out against big labels in an attempt to separate music and big-business. This is important because NIN will now pave the way for other bands (both big-name and indy) to remain or become unaffiliated with a label. This means that there is less control over their music and they (the band) will reap much more profit for the product they created. The next ten years will be very interesting for music fans as more music moves out of brick-and-mortar or DRM’d sources (iTunes) and becomes available through E-music or directly through the band. This is ultimately a great service to fans and will make the music more accessible. NIN- 1, Evil Music Labels- 0.

“Artists” find home, also a mall.

October 3, 2007

artists.jpg

ABC is reporting that a band of misfit hobos artists were found living an a void in a parking garage wall. The group of miscreants started furnishing the apartment some four years ago and have been living there part-time while filling their days playing video games and and other “artistly” activities. Who would have thought that a rag-tag team of artists might live off the work of others? The artists belonged to the Rhode Island Artists Cooperative and the leader is facing trespassing charges. Seem Plato was right.
